The Ultimate Guide to Creating Your Bespoke Jewelry

Crafting a bespoke jewelry piece is a journey of creativity, collaboration, and craftsmanship. At George Francis Jewelry, we pride ourselves on creating unique pieces that perfectly encapsulate your story.

Bespoke Design: The Step-by-Step Process

Our bespoke process starts with an initial consultation, either in person for those in the New York area or virtually for clients worldwide. You’ll sit down with our founder KT Frances and carefully discuss your vision, preferences for colors and materials, and other ideas. The more details you provide, the better–we aim to be as in-depth as possible while creating your piece. By the end of this meeting, our team will have a solid understanding of what you want to bring to life, allowing us to create initial designs for your piece.

Next, our experts will refine your vision and bring it to life through detailed design renderings. We’ll schedule a follow-up meeting where we will present you with sketches and computer-generated renderings, showcasing the design options. Client input is invaluable to us–you’ll be involved in every step of the design process so the final piece aligns perfectly with your expectations.

Selecting Stone

We source our responsibly sourced diamonds and colored gemstones from the world’s top suppliers, ensuring they are of the highest quality. Our collection includes an array of stunning options, including diamonds, sapphires, emeralds, and rubies. Remember to consider stone shapes, as they can play a crucial role in the design. Some of the shapes we use most at George Francis include:

  • Round: The classic and most popular shape, known for its brilliance and timeless appeal.
  • Princess: A square shape with a modern and elegant look.
  • Cushion: A square or rectangular shape with rounded corners, offering a vintage charm.
  • Oval: An elongated shape that gives the illusion of greater size.
  • Emerald: A rectangular shape with step cuts, known for its clarity and sophisticated appearance.
  • Pear: A teardrop shape that combines the best of round and marquise cuts.
  • Marquise: An elongated shape with pointed ends, creating a dramatic and bold look.
  • Asscher: A square shape with step cuts, similar to emerald but with a distinctive X pattern.

Stone choice, shape, and color are highly subjective, and we want you to love the final gemstones in your piece. Diamond Expert and Designer KT Frances will pre-select an assortment of stones that best suit your design and budget. A case-by-case basis, we also create a wax model of the piece for you to see and try on. This ensures you have an accurate portrayal of the scale and feel of the piece before final production begins.

Engagement Rings

Choosing the Ring Material

Selecting the right metal for your ring is equally important as choosing a stone. George Francis offers a variety of high-quality metals to suit your personal style:

  • Yellow Gold: Classic and timeless, yellow gold provides a rich, warm glow.
  • White Gold: Sleek and modern, white gold complements the sparkle of diamonds and gemstones beautifully.
  • Rose Gold: Romantic and unique, rose gold has a soft, pinkish hue that stands out from the crowd.

Once you approve the design and gemstones, we take a non-refundable deposit (usually 50% unless otherwise agreed upon) and start crafting your ring.
